Oakland County · Metro Detroit
Welcome to Nine Mile.
Michigan's most creative square mile. Ferndale doesn't need to announce itself — the murals do it, the food does it, the people do it. Progressive by instinct, independent by design, and home to the largest free LGBTQ+ festival in the state.
The Nine Mile Story
The square mile that has always done things its own way.
Ferndale sits at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Nine Mile Road — two of Metro Detroit's most iconic corridors — and it has spent decades turning that intersection into something entirely its own. The birthplace of the Woodward Dream Cruise. Home to the largest free LGBTQAI+ festival in Michigan. A city where the murals outnumber the chain restaurants, where rainbow flags fly from homes year-round, and where the nickname “Michigan's gayborhood” is worn with pride.
The PATIO Zone lets you carry an open drink down Nine Mile while you shop. Art March turns the whole month of March into a public art walk. The Rust Belt Market — anchored at Woodward and 9 Mile — houses 30+ independent businesses under one roof alongside Ferndale Radio 100.7FM. Affirmations, Michigan's oldest LGBTQ+ community center, has been at 290 W Nine Mile since 1989. This isn't a suburb pretending to be a city. Ferndale is the real thing.
Cannabis fits here the same way craft beer fits here, the same way independent restaurants fit here — as a natural extension of a community that has always valued doing things with intention. Fifteen dispensaries in a walkable footprint. Photi knows them all.
Ann Arbor owns the history of cannabis in Michigan. Detroit owns the market. Lansing owns the industry. Ferndale owns the culture.

Featured Pick of the Week
LIV Cannabis Ferndale
SpotlightFerndale's anchor dispensary. 4.7 stars across 2,500+ reviews. The staff actually knows the menu — and they help you shop it.
LIV Cannabis has earned the top spot in Ferndale the right way — through consistency, knowledgeable staff, and a menu that reflects what this community actually wants. Established in 2019, the Ferndale location at 2625 Hilton Rd is one of five LIV locations across Michigan (Ferndale, Grand Rapids, Lake Orion, Lansing, Westland). A few blocks from the Nine Mile strip but worth every step. The product selection runs deep — boutique Michigan flower, premium concentrates, a full edible lineup. Free delivery with $50 minimum, ATM on site, and the Highly Loyal Club loyalty program that carries across LIV, Pure Lapeer, and Xplore Cannabis. Photi sends people here when they want someone who will actually help them find the right thing.

Featured Dispensaries
Ferndale has 15 dispensaries in a walkable footprint. These three represent three different reasons to walk in: the hidden-gem depth of selection, the community-favorite consistency, and the Nine Mile anchor that captures what the neighborhood is.
Nature's Remedy
925 E Drayton St, Ferndale · 9am–9pm daily
100+ brands. 3,000+ products. Delivery within 25 miles. Nature's Remedy has quietly built one of the deepest menus in Metro Detroit — family-owned, customer-focused, and the kind of place that hires budtenders after testing their knowledge. Ranked #1 in Ferndale by Sativa University's community-review algorithm. If you want breadth and you want people who actually care, this is the room.
Go when you want to discover something — they carry brands you won't find everywhere else, and their budtenders know what came in this week.
Green Buddha Cannabis Co.
1921 Hilton Rd, Ferndale · 9am–9pm daily
Opened November 2019 and has been a constant in Ferndale's cannabis scene ever since — community-ranked at the top consistently, with the kind of repeat customer energy that tells you everything. Carries Michigrown product, which Photi recommends specifically. Curbside service that earns its own reviews. The crew knows their regulars and treats first-timers the same way.
Solid across the board. Ask specifically about their Michigan-grown flower selection.
King of Budz Ferndale
Nine Mile Road, Ferndale · Daily
Ferndale's highest-rated recreational cannabis dispensary is actually on Nine Mile Road — the address that matters. Proudly LGBTQ-friendly in a city where that's not marketing, it's the community. Inventory updates daily, loyalty program rewards every visit, and the team actually represents the neighborhood.
If you're walking Nine Mile and you want a dispensary with the full Ferndale character, this is the one. Ask for whatever Michigrown just dropped.

Mitten Extracts
Metro DetroitDeeply rooted in Metro Detroit, Mitten Extracts has built its reputation on bold flavors, powerful potency, and unmatched consistency. Four distinct brands under one house, all built on flower harvested at peak ripeness and processed without shortcuts. Their Gelato #33 distillate cart is the #1-selling Mitten product in Michigan month after month. This is the concentrate brand that Metro Detroit claims as its own — and Ferndale dispensaries carry the full lineup.

Fresh-frozen flower, full-spectrum terpene preservation. Entry point for Mitten buyers stepping from vapes into dabs.
Michigrown
MichiganMichigrown has become a benchmark for top-tier flower that goes beyond chasing THC numbers. Dense, trichome-covered buds with complex terpene profiles. Their Face Meltz strain — a Face Off OG × Grimace OG cross — is exactly the kind of thing Photi points people toward. Carried at Green Buddha and King of Budz Ferndale specifically, which makes Ferndale one of the best cities in Michigan to shop the brand.
Look For
Face Off OG × Grimace OG. The strain Photi specifically recommends. Complex, heavy, OG-forward. Found at Green Buddha and King of Budz Ferndale.
Michigrown rotates OG-heavy phenotypes. The shelf you want to ask questions at.

Calyxeum
DetroitFemale and minority-owned, operated out of Detroit with founders who bring degrees in science, health, and technology, and 10+ years in the Michigan cannabis industry. Calyxeum is redefining who cannabis is for and what it looks like when it's done with expertise and intention. A Ferndale-values brand in every sense — inclusive, rigorous, community-forward. Their products show up across Ferndale dispensaries for exactly that reason.
Look For
Science-backed cultivation, careful curing, terpene-forward profiles. Ask what phenotype they're most proud of this month.
Their flower rolled the way it should be. Clean, consistent, honest.
Calyxeum concentrates reflect the same rigor as the flower. Small batch, strain-specific.
Thoughtful dosing from a team that actually thinks about what that means. The measured option.
Butter
Michigan"People and plants are better together." Butter is a Michigan cannabis lifestyle brand with a philosophy that fits Ferndale's energy perfectly — quality products for everyone, made with the belief that cannabis should make people better individually and collectively. Clean branding, clear mission, genuine Michigan roots. Butter even operates a Ferndale dispensary location — the brand is woven into the city itself.
Look For
The house flower. Michigan-grown, lifestyle-accessible, consistent quality at a fair price.
Ready-to-go, designed for the kind of social consumption Ferndale does better than most cities.
Gummies and chocolates built around measured dosing and clean ingredients. The Ferndale-friendly entry point.
Lifestyle-forward, accessibly priced, reliable. The cart you recommend to a friend without a second thought.
By Design, Not Accident
The most inclusive square mile in Michigan.
Ferndale Pride is the largest free-to-the-public LGBTQAI+ festival in Michigan — 220+ vendors, three stage areas, all ages welcome. The 2026 edition happens Saturday, May 30, spanning Nine Mile from Woodward to Livernois. Not a special event in a city that happens to be tolerant. An expression of what Ferndale actually is.
NYU researchers studying Ferndale's development describe it as a city that “stakes its claim to being tolerant, to being diverse, to parading those things as positive values, when that's not the norm surrounding it.” Cannabis fits here for the same reason everything else fits here — because Ferndale decides what belongs based on values, not tradition.
